This body of work is a coalescence of recollections of the landscape and sculptural forms I photographed during my travels in South America. I was struck by the vast barrenness, interrupted sporadically by outcrops of amazing rock formations. They reminded me of the beautiful ornate statues I had earlier seen in Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires. These paintings are an amalgamation of those extremes juxtaposed on a single canvas.
Erica Wilson - Artist & Designer
Born and raised in Devonport on the North Shore of Auckland.
I am a realist painter, originally taking inspiration from my love of black and white photography, which I studied in High School.
Growing up I was exposed to art through my parents’ love of New Zealand Contemporary painting, sculpture and glass. This influence is part of what led me to Massey University where I completed a design degree.
